.........................................the sequel to
echo.
Dug by hand, I planted 1000 daffodil bulbs in the Green Mountains. A performance of sorts, yet no one is looking except the trees and creatures around me. The process was enduring, difficult, yet meditative. I was interested in the power I have as one human to move this earth and shift the landscape. I was thinking about the military industrial complex; the training soldiers undertake. I thought about young men in Ukraine, hiding from drones. I thought of the Black Panthers, lining houses with bags of sand. I thought about how much the world consumes, how much America has negatively impacted the world and yet I’m here, blessed with an easy life. So I did a not-easy-thing, with nothing valuable to gain from it except blisters, bruises, aching muscles, some photos, and flowers in another 6 months. I did want to try and be my own means of production. I created this work to talk to the world about the world.
